Causes of Sjogren’s Syndrome

The exact cause of Sjogren's Syndrome is unknown, but it is believed to be related to a malfunctioning immune system. Sjogren’s is a disorder in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells that generate saliva and tears. It often happens alongside other disorders, like rheumatoid arthritis or lupus.

Symptoms of Sjogren’s Syndrome

Symptoms of Sjogren's Syndrome can vary from person to person, but the most common symptoms include dry eyes, dry mouth, fatigue, joint pain, dry skin, and swelling of the salivary and lacrimal glands. In some cases, the immune system may also attack other organs, such as the lungs, kidneys, or liver.
